Another Sunday and another great day exploring in the sunshine. This time at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, somewhere that I've wanted to go explore for ages. I finally have 4 wheels again so my ability to venture further out just increased dramatically and this place found itself at the top of my list for a little afternoon wander. I'm glad I had my sat nav at hand to get to this place, seems you literally have to get lost in order to find the gardens, I kind of liked that though. The place in general is very relaxing; the scenery is so capturing, so much so that the hours will just fly by. There's tonnes of photo opportunities so my GoPro finally got some good action alongside my legs with all the walking. Definitely worth a visit.
When you first get started on your walk it's clear to see everything is nicely maintained. I'm not a garden expert by all means, I'm probably the opposite but you can always see and appreciate when somewhere is cared for like this. Your back and forth constantly between tree covered woodland paths and the open, more sunshine filled trails that wind right around the gardens. There definitely is a lot of walking but for me it's the perfect level of activity on a rest day from training at the gym. Like I said though, you'll probably be too busy taking in your surroundings, enjoying the sunshine and taking some photos that you won't actually realise how far you've walked. Wish I tracked how far I went now!
One of my favourite parts of the gardens was the jungle section. Very Jurassic Park like if you've ever seen the films. There definitely seemed to be a bit more colour in this part and a lot more water. It was perfectly guided right the way through here and there were tonnes of nicely placed seats so I definitely made a few stops in the sunshine to take in some of the views. Just another one of those times I wish I had a drone as I would of loved an overhead shot of the jungle.
A cool part in the jungle section and again very Jurassic Park like (really won't make sense if you haven't seen the films) was the rope bridge. I thought I'd picked a quiet day but apparently everyone had just gone straight to the rope bridge to take some pictures, mainly selfies of course. 6 on the bridge at the time so I waited for the 5 in front of me to clear the bridge before annoyingly holding up everyone behind me in order to get a cool shot. Managed it though. After this I bounced across and carried on down the wooden walk way before looping back on myself. All pics taken on my GoPro.
Just like with most places I go to there always seems to be an overly inviting cafe to finish up in. On my rest days from the gym I slightly loosen my nutrition so the inclusion of a little bit of cake is not a big deal. Plus with all the walking it will really never be detrimental. Sitting down in the sunshine with a nice coffee and a generous slice of cake is the perfect finish. These cafes are so nice, someone has to try them all and I've taken it upon myself to be that guy of course.
All comments welcome, see you in the next one.
